Its made for indexing without workarounds like extract 1.5 gb to a ramdisk or disk. Also 7zipped PSP ISOs work with PPSSPP (at least it worked when I tried some months ago).Im still hoping for support of archives that contain BINCUE files and thought that VFS was a step towards it.
![]() I type this on an Android, on which I installed a 64gb SD card that I paid. This is specially problematic in some consoles and devices that are very sensitive to corruption. After all 7zip is more of a container format, it even supports deflate. Reading from a reasonably compressed ISO is still gonna be faster than reading from a real optical disk. I use a squashfs lz4 drive of my games, which is a transparent (but read only) mount which has worse compression but faster seeking than a pure archive support like 7z (this is the reason every emulator just dumps the isos all at once in tmp). Stacking a copy-on-write on top of a softpatcher would be a touchstone feature for Retroarch for example (prevent computer game roms from writing to their medium and make softpatching not dependent on upstream as well as possibly extend it to large iso and dvd sizes by supporting streaming). The issue is that squashfs images are not a common format with enough crossplatform support, even if retroarch did support them there isnt any popular tool for the average (Windows) user to create and manipulate these images, archives would still be the most convenient format to distribute games. As a proof of concept, theres an experimental FUSE filesystem using lib7z and it claims to be quite fast. Maybe it would be interesting to test some ISOs from a mounted 7z file using fuse-7z-ng and see the performance. If the wide range of 7z algorithms is too much, maybe implementing this exclusively for zips and the deflate algorithm could be already a good trade-off. This means their seeking might have to start from file index 0 to seek backwards 2. Dolphin 7Z To Rar Library OnceThis means that every single backwards seek has to start from file archive index 0 (source: i used a java rar library once and had to implement a facade to deal with this behavior to make solid archives any file, any order extracting work). Extracting the archives can be slow, and even ware down your flash hardware. This concern can be addressed outside of compression support with the idea on my issue above, just by (optionally) taking advantage of the standard naming convention of the dumping groups. Though there has to be a runtime component in RA itself to figure out that the user has all the cds on the expected directory, with the expected names, so using the list is ok. But the first step is alway to create that orderinglist and this can be done by libretro-db. Though a more complex database would also make possible some complex arrangements of floppy groups hardcoded for the x68k, i dont think thats worth the effort. Well, i did the right decision in only having uncompressed files visible to RA and moving compression to the OS. In my issue idea that isnt necessary anyway (though it could be done). A decent computer now have 16 Gb of RAM so even if there are 4 GB used to uncompressed like 2 GameCube ISO in the ram.
